Phil Mickleson Loses at Royal Troon
Any golf fan should recognize his name. Phil Mickleson is one of the greats and one of many dominant forces in today’s competitive golf. The many-times champion has faced many painful losses over such an illustrious career, and can still suffer from them today. In fact, Mickleson faced another tough loss at the Royal Troon.
After coming into the race to the finish line relatively even, Mickleson managed to string together an amazing performance, one that could be considered one of the best of his career, but then was defeated in the end. His opponent, Henrik Stenson from Sweden just managed to outdo his own legendary performance including finishing with ten birdies.
Although anyone could lose to such a performance, it’s evident the losses effect competitors all the same. Mickleson has decided that he still has some time to push forward for his sixth Major title, but recognizes the window is exactly that, a window to meet. To come so close only to have another ripped away can understandably affect a competitive mentality heavily, but Mickleson will live to swing another day in high level competition. He is still content with where his game is right now. With such a strong performance at the Royal Troon taking Henrik Stenson to the very limits, who could blame him for thinking so? Mickleson looks to future competition with a hope to continue to improve, instead of bemoaning losses.
