Watson Takes Second Green Jacket
According to Bubba Watson, a second jacket is not about proving himself, but the truth is that there are mot many things at Augusta National Golf Club than tradition, honor and the great champions who have won the Masters. This second win for Watson on Sunday did validate his first accomplishment in 2012 - making him the 17th golfer to clinch the Masters. On top of that, his son, Caleb aged 2 years came on the 18th green, two years since he was adopted by Bubba and his wife Angie just prior to the 2012 tournament.
Watson stood his own against challenges of 20-year-old Jordan Spieth and Sweden’s Jonas Blixt. Watson, who 24 hours before had said that he has “issues” got rid of own doubts, attributed to a large extent to an active driver which brought about the challenges of Augusta National’s 7,435 yard layout.
Watson shot a 3-under par 69 for a 8-under 280 total, as well as a three stroke victory over Spieth (72) and Blixt (71). Miguel Agel Jimenez shot 71 to end fourth at 284. Watson who encountered problems with the putter on Saturday’s third round with two three putts and 33 total putts, accumulated 10 one putt greens Sunday to make a total of 25. During the last round in which no one came after him on the second nine, Watson did what he was required to do, making seven pars and a birdie at the par-5 13 hole.
Watson, who is from Florida with an unusual swing and a technique to match, carved his name among the great champions at the highest major championship venue in golf.
